Nature

STOP LITTERING!
I don't know where else to start, but anybody who would throw even a cigarette butt on the ground makes me sick. No matter where you look, you see trash. Go for a walk in the woods and you find a whole bunch of trash. Stop! Please protect what we have left. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and all that. Hug a tree. Play nice with fire.

We have some of the most beautiful natural areas in the world right here on Vancouver Island. We are surrounded by ocean (duh!) and have an abundance of lakes, rivers, waterfalls, and even glaciers. We have record size trees of many kinds and some very mountainous, primative terrain. Our weather is quite mild and we don't have much to worry about in the way of natural disasters (unless you count the Christmas Blizzard of '96).

Among the wildlife on Vancouver Island you will find: Blacktail deer, cougar, black bear, fox, wolf, elk, squirrel, duck, goose, swan, grouse, Bald eagle, Gold eagle, hawk, raven, Stellar jay, robin, etc.

There is also an incredible variety of trees, shrubs, flowers, mushrooms, and more. Who can forget the majesty of a 400 year old Douglas Fir or the fear inspired by a gnarled old oak or the mystery of a twisted, peeling arbutus?

The ocean has a wide variety of life, but not quite the abundance there used to be. Pollution and wholesale rape have had a very damaging effect on our waters. There are salmon, cod, halibut, flounder, red snapper, jellyfish, orcas (killer whales), grey whales, the odd humpback whale, dolphins, seals, sea lions, otters, crabs, and so much more.
The rivers and lakes also have trout, bass, steelhead, crawfish, otters, and even turtles.
